Rave Scholarships

The Alexander Rave Foundation contributes to practical further education in realising and arranging exhibitions in the fields of fine art, design, architecture, and cultural history. It therefore awards scholarships to young curators, restorers, museum technicians, and cultural managers from transformation or developing countries who have arranged a guest period, practical training, or non-paid work at a museum, a non-commercial gallery, or a non-commercial cultural institution in Germany.

Who can apply?

Rave Scholarships can be awarded to people working in one of the following fields:

  • curators

  • restorers

  • museum technicians

  • cultural managers.

What are the application requirements?

The applicant

  • comes from a transformation or developing country and is permanently resident there (apart from temporary stays abroad, e. g. residencies or scholarships),

  • has found a non-commercial partner institution in Germany (List of possible host institutions) for a guest period beginning in 2024/2025 and to be completed in 2025

  • has finished their studies or professional training,

  • will not receive another scholarship or complete another residency during the period in question,

  • has good written and spoken English or German skills.


What does the Rave Scholarship include?

The Rave Scholarship is a working scholarship and requires attendance on site. It includes the following benefits:

  • monthly lump sum of 1.500 EUR for a scholarship period of three to six months

  • travel expenses for the scholarship holder’s arrival and departure (for journeys per car to a maximum of 130 Euro per one-way trip)

  • Conclusion of a health insurance policy

  • German course

Application deadline

There are two application deadlines:

  • Applications by 6 September 2024: scholarships begin at the earliest in November 2024

  • Applications by 25 October 2024: scholarships begin in 2025

Scholarships must end by 31 December 2025 at the latest.

Applicants will usually be informed by email within one month after the application deadline.
