Diane Dal-pra: Dissolutions
As part of IKT Congress 2023, we are going to visit Mostyn Gallery and see the first solo UK institutional exhibition by the French artist Diane Dal-pra. The exhibition is curated by Alfredo Cramerotti, IKT President and Director of Mostyn, and Kalliopi Tsipni-Kolaza, Associate Curator of Visual Art at Mostyn.
Diane Dal-pra’s paintings are psychological assemblages revealing the multiple layers of our everyday life, our relationships with the inanimate objects we collect and the construction of our identities. Often seeing these commodities as a sort of armor to get us through life, she underlines a dual purpose of our possessions: the capacity to erase or engulf us, and to strongly define our existence.
Dissolutions focus on our daily life rituals, relationships, obsessions and sensations. The characters depicted in the paintings are hidden between transparent curtains, side bed lamps or simply turned away from us. Dal-pra transforms the body in objects and objects into flesh. We cannot know where one finishes and the other begins, and by standing in front of the works, we move through a landscape of silent remnants and solitary moments; our role as a spectator is to stare, not simply look.
